Emily Dickinson

American poet (1830–1886) who lived most of her life in Amherst, Massachusetts, largely in seclusion. Only a handful of her nearly 1,800 poems were published in her lifetime; the rest were discovered after her death. Her short, slant-rhymed verses on death, hope, and the inner life made her one of the most original voices in American poetry.
