Epigram: Wit & Wisdom

Article

An epigram is a short poem delivering insight with sharpness. Oscar Wilde mastered it: "I can resist everything except temptation." Witty, paradoxical, memorable. Epigrams land hard in miniature.

The epigram isn't sentimental. It's clever, often ironic. A literary joke with a twist. "The only way to get rid of temptation is to yield to it"—true through cleverness.

Write tight. Every word matters. No waste. No explanation. Just precise observation with a turn. Epigrams are perfect for modern poetry—they're memorable, shareable, witty. But don't mistake sentiment for wit.
